USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub and its local partner organization, the African Women’s Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP), delivered a Persuasive Communications and Assertiveness Workshop for Women in Business in Windhoek, Namibia, from February 16-18, 2016.
USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub, working with the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS), has successfully developed and published the “Guide for the Referencing of Standards in Technical Regulations in Zambia.”
Following the success of the Persuasive Communication and Negotiation Trainings conducted in Zambia and Botswana in August 2015, USAID’s Southern African Trade Hub launched the new extended version of the training in Lusaka, Zambia from February 10-12, 2016.
During the week of February 1, 2016, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub assisted the Swaziland Standards Authority (SWASA) to develop and print copies of the “Guide for the Referencing of Standards in Regulations in Swaziland” for distribution to various government and private sector agencies.
USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub has supported Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Zambia to establish World Trade Organization (WTO) Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) National Enquiry Points (NEPs) to help the countries meet their WTO obligations.
On December 17, 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub collaborated with the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS); Zambia’s Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry; and the UNIDO Trade Capacity Building Framework to support the inaugural Zambia Annual Quality Awards held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka.
On December 10, 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub held a workshop in Mbabane, Swaziland to validate the list of regulations and pieces of legislation compiled by the Trade Hub to facilitate the development of a booklet of all technical regulations in Swaziland.
On December 15, 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub collaborated with the Namibian Standards Institution (NSI) to organize a workshop on “Liquid Measuring Devices Subject to Legal Metrology Control” in Windhoek, Namibia. The workshop was part of the assistance that NSI requested from the Trade Hub during a needs assessment meeting in October 2015.
On December 4, 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub conducted a workshop in Mbabane, Swaziland on the topic of “From Policy to Law and Regulatory Impact Analysis” (RIA). The workshop was hosted by the Regulatory and Quality Infrastructure Development Department at the Swaziland Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade.
The Mozambique Instituto Nacional de Normalização e Qualidade (INNOQ), with support from USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub, held two seminars on “Private Sector Participation in Standards Development” in Quelimane (Zambezia Province) and Inhambane (Inhambane Province) on November 27 and 30, 2015, respectively.
